Supportive Housing
Evictions, lack of affordable housing, sexual assault, mental health concerns, and addictions contribute to homelessness.
We can help with interim and supportive housing as well as outreach, counselling and support services.
Interim Housing
A 6-bed, longer-term housing program is also available for single women in the safe environment of a 40-unit apartment building while they work with a Interim Housing Coordinator to secure permanent housing in the community. When the women move into permanent housing in the community, the Interim Housing Coordinator also offers assistance to help them transition successfully.
Outreach & Other Services
A Housing Outreach Worker supports and helps women and families locate affordable housing in the community. Assistance is available for clarifying landlord and tenant's rights, completing applications for subsidized housing, landlord mediation, and referrals to other agencies, as well as for finding rental housing. In 2005, the Housing Outreach Worker served 420 families and single women in successfully locating a total of 132 rental units.
Partnerships with other agencies allow the YWCA to provide on-site health care, parenting support through the Department of Health, Healthy Babies/Healthy Children Program, social assistance casework, and more for the women and children living in YWCA Housing.
55 McGrigor Apartments
Supportive housing is available to single women and female-led families in the 40-unit, rent-geared-income apartments.
